The Perfect World

Migue, Mago; De Matos, Luis

Essential Magic Collection

(Based on 2 reviews)
MagoMigue's rendition of the Paul Curry classic takes it into new territory. Four spectators shuffle a deck of cards and without looking at the faces try to guess which are the black cards and which are the red. It sounds impossible but when the packets of cards are turned over the incredible has happened. The spectators have separated all the red cards from all the black cards. This is a brand new approach to a sensational effect. The deck is genuinely shuffled by the spectators. No sleight of hand. None of the usual switching of packets or marker cards. The handling is super clean and the routine plays big. Use it in close up or for a larger audience. Comes complete with a special deck of cards that the audience can freely handle and yet makes the trick possible. You can even use it for other card tricks.

Here we go again... I really wish I could keep this to myself, but I have a responsibility to the rest of the magic world to tell people about this. The minute I understood what MagoMigue had done, I started calling every friend I knew that performs Out of This World.

I have more versions of Out of This World than any other effect in my repertoire. For me, it's personal. This was one of the first effects I showed my wife (over 15 years ago) and it has been one of her favorite effects ever since. In fact, we've had discussions with other friends and have determined that if there were such a thing as a "Chick Trick," this would be it. There's something about the plot that just speaks to most of the women in our life (almost all non-magicians).

Because of the amount of work and study I've put into this plot, very few things surprise me. MagoMigue's The Perfect World surprised the crap out of me... and in a very good way.

He has made two improvements, one of which is truly revolutionary. The other I don't care about because it really only applies to a Curry-esque layout where you end up with four "sections" of cards. I gave up on that years ago because I think the picture is too muddy. But if you use four packets instead of two, his addition will be significant to you.

I really wish I could tell you what the other improvement is without giving away too much. But I can't. Suffice it say that if you do Out of This World, or have ever wanted to, you want to get this product!

For $35 you get a special deck of cards and a very clever and amazing presentation of Paul Curry's Out of This World.

The deck of cards that you get is what makes this all work. It is a normal deck that can be used just as any other deck. It can be shuffled, handled and examined by the spectator. It's not marked, so there's no marks to find. Yet the deck is undetectably gimmicked, and even when you know it's there, it takes some serious practice to master it. It took me several attempts to finally feel comfortable with it.

Putting aside the deck for a moment, there are some great ideas that could be added to your standard Out of This World non-gimmicked handling. What's great about this deck is that you can do your entire show with this deck having it handled, shuffled, etc., and at anytime with no deck switch you can go right into Out of This World regardless of the state of the deck. The DVD mentions that you can give the deck away to keep. While that's true, you'll still have to buy another "special" deck if you want to do this trick again.

As I mentioned, the secret is undetectable, and in fact, once you know the secret, if you go back and rewatch the performance, you'll realize that he didn't entirely "trust" the gimmick either. However, having said all that, the deck is clever, and the presentational ideas (regardless of the deck) are worthy of attention, so this one is very easy to recommend.

Final Verdict:
4.5 Stars with a Stone Status of GEM.
