(Based on 1 review)
Learn a classic of magic from two masters- past and present!

The magic happens right in front of your audience eyes! Two silk handkerchiefs are tied together and tightened by both you AND a spectator; the spectator can even tie his own knots! Then right before their eyes the knots vanish into thin air. This effect is so perplexing as everything can happen right in the hands of your spectators.

Now, for the first time, everything you need to add this classic to your own act is in one place. First, there's downloadable instruction from the master himself! Slydini guides you through the routine step by step in the original meticulously written and photo-illustrated digi-manuscript.

Then, get ready to watch Bill Malone, one of the world's greatest magicians working today, perform "Test of Strength," his handling of Slydini's classic routine, in front of an obviously baffled and entertained audience.

Then get ready to learn as Bill teaches his routine in minute detail, complete with all of his own handling nuances.

Finally, there are the props! Two specially made silks of the exacting requirements for the routine, enabling you to have the right materials to begin the learning process immediately. Overview

The Knotted Silks trick is a classic trick and has been around since Reginald Scot wrote The Discoverie of Witchcraft in 1584. It languished in obscurity until it was popularized by Slydini. Now known as Slydini Silks, this routine has been performed by dozens of known and unknown magicians since. Notables such as Steve Draun, Bill Malone, Cellini and Michael Vincent have performed it in their paid sets. There have been various versions produced, but now Murphy’s Magic put out their version which not only has some of the best silks I have seen, but assembled performances and explanations by three of the fore-mentioned performers as well as a 42 page excerpt from Slydini’s book explaining his routine.

Effect

The performer produces two handkerchiefs and ties a knot in them. The spectators confirm the knot is taut and probably very difficult to untie. Yet, with barely a move the performer separates the two handkerchiefs. This is done over and over whether the spectator ties one or more knots in the handkerchiefs. Typically done as a comedic interlude this routine affords lots of byplay and shared laughter between the magician and spectators.

Method

The method requires very little other than two silks made out of a specific fabric and the knowledge of how to “upset” the knot tied in them. The fabric is a coated nylon that allows a slip between the two pieces of fabric. There are a couple of versions of this fabric and it is typically referred to as “rip stop nylon”. Parachutes and tents are typically made from this type of material.

Product Quality

The material used in Murphy’s version of Slydini Silks is the best I have seen. All versions work pretty much the same but the fabric used in other versions do not look like handkerchief material and has an “out of the ordinary” look to them. The fabric used in Murphy’s version looks the closest to a genuine men’s silk handkerchief. Included with the silks is a one hour download of performances and explanations by Steve Draun, Cellini and Bill Malone with thorough explanations. Additionally, a 42 page PDF excerpt of Slydini’s book covering this routine is also included. It is reputed that Slydini could go on for 20 minutes with this routine alone, although I don’t suggest that.

Ad Copy Integrity

The ad copy is accurate and considering the quality of the silks provided this is a tremendous value if someone would like to add this to their repertoire.
It has come to my attention that the entire classic Slydini Knotted Silks routine is not taught on the videos provided by any of the three performers. The entire routine is only included in the PDF. The routine can be learned in its entirety on Bill Wisch's "Definitive Lesson on Slydini’s Knotted Silks” is 2 hours long and includes (on video) the routine the way Tony Slydini intended for it to be done. Also, Wisch's video includes the “Splitting of the Knots” which is not seen anywhere else. If you are interested in learning the full routine it can be purchased at https://www.billwisch.com/products
