Checkpoint - is a casual trick with rip up and restoration of a receipt.

"Uh show me something!?" - popular situation in life of magician.

During these moments, simple magic tricks like "choose the card" do not want to be shown.
Magician wants to feel himself like Dinamo or David Blaine, which create magical improvisation with handy items.
We all know, that the best improvisation is a prepared performance.

Checkpoint - is a prepared improvisation created by "Creators P" - (Evgeny Gorlanov and Arseny Tsaran)

They were inspired by Dan Harlan and Shawn Farquhar principal and created their own routine:

A spectator signs the receipt and then rips it up with illusionist.
Afterwards, the receipt gets restored, but in the wrong order.
The magician presents that extraordinary receipt with a sign to the spectator as a souvenir. No substitutionsNo glue, no scotch tape or magnetsThe receipt really rips upThe spectator sings the receipt Magical receipt can be presented to the spectator as a souvenirBasic version contains 10 receipts
Pro version contains 30 receipts

- Shawn Farquhar - Torn 2 pieces
- Dan Harlan - Crazy eighth/crazy cash

Overview

As performers, there should be no reason why we should not be ready to perform at a moment’s notice. For many of us who walk around with pockets full of “stuff”, it is a pain to carry magic in case something comes about. The question is too, what to carry? It would be odd to carry spongeballs, a deck of cards or even a packet trick. Coins might be an organic prop, if you are skilled with coins. For me, the more organic a prop is, the more natural the magic would appear. Chequepoint Basic (and Pro) is probably the most organic looking prop you can use, an old store receipt.

Effect

As your walking down the street your fan club stops you and asks you to perform a trick. You try to extricate yourself from this dilemma since you don’t have your Zig Zag Illusion with you. However, your fan club persists and you relent by taking out an old Walmart receipt and proceed to tear it into pieces. Being the great magician that you are, you restore it completely, but unfortunately you restored it a bit out of order, but it is intact and you leave it as a souvenir.

Method

Chequepoint is accomplished by using a gimmick. What you get are pre-printed receipts constructed in such a way that the handling and restoration is extremely easy and other than palming off a small chard of paper there are no difficult sleight. The method is so simplistic; it allows you to focus on the presentation.

Product Quality

There are so many things I like about Chequepoint Basic (and Pro). Evgeny Gorlanov and Arseny Tsaran, the creators of Chequepoint addressed so many issues I have had with other releases. The first is the quality of the receipts. They are printed on what appears to be the same paper you get with real receipts. The second is the store names. Other “receipts” type tricks used fake store names. One look at them and almost anyone can tell they are not real. Chequepoint uses familiar names like Walmart, Nike, Bank of America and Starbucks. The third thing that I like is the receipts are intentionally aged to look like they were sitting in your wallet or pocket for a while. There are no addresses or dates, the pertinent data has been ‘worn away” so they cannot be questioned. The download instructions are thorough and lasts about 20 minutes. Filming, lighting and sound are all fine.

Ad Copy Integrity

The ad copy is not only accurate but there is crediting as well. It’s been a long time, if ever, I had seen crediting in the actual ad copy

Final Thoughts

Chequepoint is a great product to carry in your wallet just in case you are coerced to perform something. However, the one big flaw is the price. If you were to purchase the Basic setup of 10 receipts will cost, $3.50 per performance and the Pro setup of 30 receipts will cost $2.17 per performance. OUCH ! At those prices you may want to be very selective on who you perform this for.
