Firkin of Deipotent Trouvailles
By John Hostler

Polls suggest that roughly 65% of magicians need a draw from John Hostler’s Firkin of Deipotent Trouvailles: A Left-Leaning Collection of Magic and Paranormal Fakery.

It’s an all too common occurrence. You toss and turn in bed, thinking… wishing… dreaming…

If only I could make just one side of a card invisible…

If only I could produce origami figures without the inconvenience of folding…

If only my “Searchers” had a little more mustard on their sandwich…

If only two volunteers could freely and simultaneously select the same card from separate decks as the audience watches from behind…

If only a selected card would learn to control itself as the deck is mixed by audience members…

If only a packet of cards could be switched by simply dropping it to the table…

If only a folded card matching a free selection could be found in my money clip with no palming, index work, or hidden djinn…

If only I could replicate the infamous Berglas Effect with no pre-show, stooges, forces, magnets, shifts, or contrived funny business…

If only I had a logical reason to spell-count anything…

Sound familiar? Well, this may be the firkin’ book for you!

Seeds for FDT were sown at roughly 1:30am CST on November 9, 2016. Nothing sparks creativity like frustration and angst. Twenty-seven worn decks and 400 gallons of coffee later, Firkin of Deipotent Trouvailles was born. FDT dials back the sadism coursing through Hostler’s previous tome, Magnum Opossum. Indeed, some of this material can be a pleasure to perform. Who knew???
