Overview

The Experiment by Franz Harary is a behind the scenes peek at what it would look like if you were a professional performing illusionist. There are no secrets offered but a loose collection of montages of various performances as Harary dictates his thoughts and relates numerous stories as he goes through his rehearsals and shows.

Effect

The DVD is a glimpse into the real workings of how shows are seen from “behind the curtain”. Done in a “home movie style” perspective you follow Harary as he interacts with all the other players that make the show work. You get snippets of the backstories of some of the illusions and why he uses them.

Product Quality

The DVD is less than an hour long. There was no attempt to make this a high quality video and as explained in the beginning, it was more of an experiment to see if he can bring to the magic community a real world vision of what it is like setting up and performing a magic show on some of the biggest stages in the world.

Ad Copy Integrity

The ad copy states exactly what to expect. This is a video for the real magic enthusiast that would like to glimpse of what a performing professional goes through on a daily basis.

This is another ‘behind the scenes’ DVD of what it really means to be an illusionist.

This DVD covers everything from Harary basically crawling on the ground to get in an illusion backstage, to him signing autographs after the show, and he gives us a sort of a real time ‘audio commentary’ from on stage, off stage, and even while inside the illusions.

There are no full explanations, no illusion plans, or something to build yourself. It’s merely a glimpse into Franz Harary’s world of dancers, illusions, giant TV screens, and fire. LOTS of fire!

If you have any sort of aspiration of being an illusionist, this DVD is a chance for you to see it’s not all dancing girls and applause. It’s not always a world of push button props and beautiful assistants doing all the work and the magician getting all the credit. It’s a place where everyone on a crew of fifty people must do their jobs correctly for the good of the show as a whole.

Even if you don’t want to be an illusionist, this is a very insightful view into something that those of us who only carry one briefcase have no idea about.

Highest recommendation!
