Matchblock Penetration

(Based on 2 reviews)
The magician displays a short needle along with a matchbox. He pushes the needle straight through the middle of the matchbox–it can be seen protruding from both sides. The magician then removes the needle and opens the drawer of the matchbox. Inside is found a solid brass block which completely fills the drawer of the box. How could the needle have possibly passed through? Everything may be completely examined.

In case this is the same make that I use - there are several different variations of this prop on the market, I have three and not all are equal in workmanship and workmanship is paramount and what you pay for - I would want to give it a 5 star rating. I have been using it for years and the only thing you have to do to keep it going is a little teflon spray every now and then and pulling it in the longitudal direction over a rather coarse piece of sandpaper. It is very heavy, in fact some specs do seem to believe me when I say, it is my pension savings, I trust a bar of gold more than the government.
And of course you will want such a valuable thing back rather quickly which limits in a natural way the time they can inspect it. Nobody has ever been able to solve the mystery. It is important to use a fresh matchbox every time so you can show there are no holes in the box before you push the needle through and can then show there is a hole where you pushed through the needle on both sides. Wooden boxes are better than paperboard boxes because the latter may give off fluff that can be trapped where you want nothing to be.

Pricey, but worth it. Fairly easy to perform, but I worry about accidental reveal on this moreso than the more foolproof tricks. Practice then should be one that keeps them speculating.
