This book is quite unlike your average magic book. There aren't any tricks, but there are lots of secrets. Or, more accurately, lots of tips and techniques that David Stone has learned over the years as a successful, professional close-up magician. Not all of these tips will work for you because you're not David Stone and don't have his life (sorry to have to break it to you), but you'll enjoy reading the book nonetheless.
It's written in a breezy, conversational style that makes it a quick and entertaining read. This is a testament to the translation, by the way, so take a moment to thank Graham Jones for what I'm sure was a cultural challenge. Physically, the book is a nicely printed and bound paperback, despite its thickness, you'll find it very portable and easy to handle. It's a perfect airplane book (which is exactly where I read it) because of the fast-pace and many entertaining anecdotes.
There are some "adult situations" and language used, but for me that underscores one of the points of the book—who you are as a person and your personality are your strongest selling points. For me, Close Up: The Real Secrets of Magic had me both laughing out loud and reaching for a pen to underline useful techniques. Overall the supportive and encouraging advice made me feel that I'd easily gotten my money's worth, and I think if you approach this book as a "brain dump" from a friendly, accomplished performer, you'll feel the same way. Take from it the parts that resonate with you, and for the rest, just enjoy the ride.
