My first contact with Rich Osterlind's material was his breakthrough card system an ingenious random looking card stack for those of us who have enough to remember without memorizing an entire deck. The system and several great effects are covered in volume 2.
Volume One is Mr. Osterlind's act. Every piece of material is strong and the act is a complete package. If you learned all of the material you would have a complete and mind blowing act.
Volumes Three and Four are just more gravy for your meat and potatoes.
Many more of my clients have been requesting more of a mental slant and my agent advised me that he could get more money for my appearances if I were billed as a magician/mentalist. I know the purists out there will complain, but too bad, The purists don't pay my bills. I decided to pour over the available material on mentalism. Without a doubt the material contained in Mind Mysteries is some of the most useable and audience stunning material available today. The perfected center tear alone is worth the price of the dvd set. If you use this technique with some cold reading you have something that borders on real mind reading.
I have incorporated two of Mr. Osterlinds effects into my strolling repertoire. I rate things based on audience reaction. If a client hands me a $200 tip in addition to a substantial fee, based on my performance, after watching his guests slack jawed reaction, then we're going to see five stars!
Richard Osterlind never struck me as a dynamic performer. In fact a previous video "Challenge Magic" I thought he was a little dry. Obviously time and experience have improved Mr. Osterlind and he has aged like a fine wine. The material contained in this set without question is some of the strongest mental magic I have ever seen released by anyone.
Let me say it again: some of the strongest mental magic I have ever seen released by anyone. I'm surprised that Mr. Osterlind hasn't turned up on national television and isn't more highly acclaimed in the magic community.
I almost question the wisdom of putting this material into the public stream, but I am glad to have it as a resource. Thank you, Mr. Osterlind.
