I have a confession. I love beginner magic books and DVDs. It’s not hip or trendy like learning a bunch of flourish cuts, but I love foundations. It brings me real joy to read a good solid collection of basics; even better I often add something to my arsenal. It is rare I do not pick up some subtlety or aid.
Unfortunately I cannot say I picked up anything from Jay Sankey’s new beginning card magic disc. It is however a very complete crash course, perhaps more thorough than any other DVD of its type. It is a thoughtful selection of essential sleights and solid beginning routines. It is all excellent material that will have you entertaining with a borrowed deck of cards before you know it!
Jay has always been a good instructor, especially for the newcomer. In a matter of days, you will have card controls and false cuts that will enable you to perform almost immediately. Over 40 sleights and 18 routines are taught, making this not only thorough but a great deal!
