Perfection
Oz Pearlman
(Based on 1 review)
Perfection is one of those rare routines where spectators handle the cards and are in total control. They don't just witness the impossible, they experience it.
In performance, Perfection has a similar feel to Paul Curry's legendary "Out of this World"--the audience gets to make all the decisions, and as each card is dealt the effect becomes more and more unexplainable. The difference with Perfection is that the dealing sequence IS the climax so you get to the reaction sooner and build from there. Modern audiences are fully engaged and react with spontaneous laughter and applause.
- Instant reset and instantly repeatable!
- Tons of audience participation!
- Learn one of the easiest and most convincing false shuffles in existence! This shuffle is easy to do, very versatile and truly gives the illusion of a deck being shuffled.
- Uses a regular deck of cards--no gimmicks!
Running Time Approximately 51min

The effect reads like a dream. You hand someone half the deck. They shuffle to their heart's content while the magician does the same with the other half. After all the shuffling, the order of the shuffled cards matches with the remaining half of the deck!
Do the video demos match the written description? Yep, they do. And there aren't any conveniently-placed cutaway shots like so many of the crappy "street magic" stuff coming out these days.
It couldn't really be that clean, could it? Yep, it could. After watching the four performance clips on the DVD, I still had no idea what was going on. I did notice a short section of the performance that involved some overly animated hand gestures, but I just assumed that was a property of the creator's personality.
The method is surprisingly simple. You'll need about 30 seconds of "arts and crafts" to make the necessary props and then you're ready to go. The minimal slight-of-hand required can be mastered quickly. Oz goes into quite a bit of detail about the timing, misdirection and blocking to hide the necessary moves.
Oh, and if you want an effect that screams "psychic", there's a bonus effect that uses Rhine ESP cards instead of playing cards.
