PROS

It is a very visual change from any one written message on a card box to another message.

The method is not bad. It is pretty well angle proof and could be performed surrounded. The method involves a gimmick that will not last forever, but they include some needed material to make your own replacement gimmicks. I would say you have enough material for approximately half a dozen replacement gimmicks.

The effect does come with a completed hand made gimmick. Mine was of very good quality and worked just fine.

The effect performs pretty much as shown on the trailer. However…

CONS

The ad copy says the box is immediately handed out for inspection. There is a gimmick that must be removed from the box before handing out. One more problem is the gimmick is made from a Bicycle card back that is slid into the cellophane of the card box. Bicycle card boxes no longer have a card back on the box. This means you really can’t hand out the box for inspection.

One more point about the ad copy: The effect looks as presented in the video, but I want to point out a bit of a downside to the method. The problem I have with the method is it involves holding the deck in a somewhat unusual manner. In the trailer video you can see this unusual holding of the deck. This is required to do the effect. There are other similar effects involving a changing prediction on a single card that do now involve an awkward grip. For example: Frame by Alexis De La Fuente.

VERDICT

Not a bad effect, but contrary to the ad copy, you won’t be able to hand out the box immediately after the effect as they don’t make Bicycle boxes to match the gimmick any more. I think there are better effects using a similar principle, using a playing card instead of the box. I think the use of this sort of gimmick on a playing card is stronger because you could hand out the playing card at the end of the routine and they can keep the card. An example of such effect is Frame by Alexis De La Fuente.

Manufacturer's Description:

From the mind of Danny Weiser comes a SUPER, visual and unique revelation to take the magic world by storm! 'The Switchup' is a hyper visual ink revelation that changes on the front of a card box right in front of a spectator's eyes... AND the card box is then handed over immediately for examination - Wow! Audience tested, this revolutionary gimmick will fry anyone who gets a chance to 'Switchup'!!!!!!!!

Sample routine - A card is chosen by the spectator. You mention that you have a prediction on your card box. You show your prediction to be a question mark. In the blink of an eye, the question mark changes into the spectator's chosen card, for example 5H.

A fully customised 'Switchup' gimmick is included.
