PROS

I really wanted to like this DVD as I love storytelling magic. However, there was absolutely NO storytelling on this DVD. It was a collection of … in my opinion… not well thought out, not real strong little visual moments.

While I was not thrilled with most effects, there was one exception:

ATM: This is a really nice piece of magic and it does have a bit of “storyteller” patter. You show an ATM card from both sides and talk about how you can never find an ATM machine. You then visually snap a bill from the ATM card. Nice gimmick, nice routine.

CONS

MBZ — Matchbox to lighter conversion. The problem I have with this effect is the motivation. There was no motivation given in the DVD. It’s a magic effect with no purpose. Perhaps you could ask the audience if anyone has a box of matches for a different routine. As you ask, show the matchbox as you say: “We need fire for this… Does anyone have a matchbox like this one? No? How about a lighter, like this one?”

Post-X: The problem I have with this effect is that even in the demo on the DVD, the post-it pad looked suspicious.

Mini Bar: Again, it just seems pointless to me to produce a mini liquor bottle without a label on it and then have a label appear on the bottle.

Lotto Wallet: This is an effect where a lottery fill out sheet is shown on both sides and a bill appears from it. However, in the handling explanation, he says the spectator has seen both sides of the lotto sheet, but it doesn’t play that way. It looks like the lotto sheet is folded awkwardly to show only folded sides. Also, the handling of the unfolding looks very unusual. If you had a folded up lotto sheet, you wouldn’t unfold it in such an awkward way.

Travel Transpo: A train ticket is transposed with a travel card. I’m sure in some circles, this all makes sense, but in the US, so few people travel by train, that most people probably have never seen either a train ticket or a travel card. That said, the method was not bad. Perhaps this method could be applied to other things... Wait, it has! There are several effects where credit cards transpose to a bill… much stronger than a train ticket to travel ticket transpo.

VERDICT

If you are expecting storytelling magic, you will be highly disappointed with this DVD. There is no storytelling. In addition, many of the effects were, in my opinion, not super strong and in some cases, might lead a spectator to think “What was the point of that?” However, one effect, ATM, was really strong and did include a clever little routine with nice patter.
