PROS

This is a very visual gambling demonstration.

Joshua Jay teaches a visually stunning way to cut to three kings and an ace. His teaching for how to go from one phase to another, where the three kings and one ace turn into four Aces and then into a royal flush are strong and well taught.

The effect comes with five gimmicked cards that can be used in any deck.

CONS

Unless you can split cards and glue cards back together, you are not likely going to be able to replace your gimmicks when they wear out. The gimmicks will last as long as any regular card would last, depending upon how often you perform this.

On the DVD, Joshua didn’t cover how to handle cleanup. The cards start out in the deck and then come out and are handled like a packet trick. I don’t think you are likely to put the gimmicked cards back in the deck. Perhaps one work-around to this would be to remove regular cards from the deck that match the final phase royal flush gimmicked cards and place them in your breast pocket with some sort of divider, such as a small piece of cardboard. At the end of the routine, place the gimmicked cards in your pocket, commenting on how gamblers hide a good hand in their pocket. You can then remove the un-gimmicked cards and ask a participant to shuffle them into the deck and perform a different effect with a shuffled deck. This is a very strong effect, so you will want to select something that is either very strong, or very engaging with the audience. You might want to consider one of the effects on "Three Card Routines" by Asi Wind.

VERDICT

Very strong, very visual gambling demonstration. The only drawback is you get five gimmicked cards that will wear out and you can’t easily make your own replacement cards.

Suggestions from the Reviewer

In the DVD, Joshua explains a method that involves additional gimmicked cards from a regular deck that you can make yourself. If you purchase Open Triumph by Dani Daortiz, you can use these additional gimmick cards in the Triumph routine, and more easily find them after the effect to cleanup the deck.
