A magician taking a big nasty bite out of a deck of cards . . . quick . . . who comes to mind when I say that? My guess is that Paul Gertner was not even in the top 100.
Here's the basic effect:
- Card selected and signed
- "Shuffled" into the deck and "lost"
- Magician takes a big bite out of the deck
- Swallows the pieces - except for a portion of the spectator's card
- Partial signature is seen on the "bit off" portion in the magician's mouth
- Re-attached spectator's bitten card to the piece in mouth
- Deck is completely bitten through and examine-able
- Spectator is left with a signed card with your dental impressions as a souvenir
If you like the effect . . . then get this for sure. In my review of Stephen Tucker's This, That and The Other I mentioned that for $35 bucks you get a short poorly made DVD, a nice booklet and 3 cards. I also mentioned that for $35 bucks you should get a lot more . . . with this effect (Bite Me) you get a lot more . . . yet only $35 bucks . . .
Bite Me Comes with the special deck of cards you need, a nicely produced booklet with a ton of photos along with detailed instructions plus a DVD that shows live performances along with a thorough explanation. I've always been a fan of Gertner's work . . . it's very well thought out and detailed and quite often extremely baffling even to magicians. This effect came to Gertner in a dream which may explain why it's so out of character for him . . . as mentioned, I would never expect a guy like him to perform an effect like this, let alone create the effect.
But just because it's not "him" doesn't mean this is a bad product. Personally, it's not really my style, but I certainly get the appeal . . . so, if you like the effect and think you'll do it and you have $35 dollars itchin' to be spent, then I think you'll be satisfied with this.
