Alice's Revenge Review

Bob Farmer's ALICE'S REVENGE is a straightforward packet trick. You show a small envelope or card case. You place it in front of the participant. They name any queen. You remove four cards and the named queen is the only one not in the envelope, a blank card is seen in its place.

This simple effect is fine but I don't think it will be replacing B'WAVE for me anytime soon. I will admit it does have one advantage (if one cares about this sort of thing). It allows you to have the participant choose any queen. There is no Equivoque. However, there are some disadvantages. The blank card can be handed out for examination, but the other three queens cannot. I can't imagine what one would say or do in that circumstance. Since you'll want to reset right away, you'll have to keep the queens in your hand until you get the blank card back to reset.

It is suggested that one could have their contact information on the blank card, leaving it with the participant as the other three queens are quickly put away. I see that being the best way to do this.

What I love about B'WAVE that this routine doesn't offer, is precisely that it allows you to use Equivoque, it allows you to seemingly show all four cards and innocently place them on the table or the participants hand. And the surprise of showing three blank cards, in my opinion, is far more pleasing than showing one blank card.

So, again, ALICE'S REVENGE is a great alternative if using Equivoque scares you off, but otherwise, it's a weaker effect.
