What is GURU?

It's the closest demonstration of mind over matter that you'll ever be able to do.

GURU is inspired by an ancient technique used by monks called "Tum-mo". The technique allows them to raise the temperatures of their fingers by as much as 17 degrees. The human body gives off enough heat in 30 minutes to bring half a gallon of water to a boil.

? International researchers are astonished by these results.

GURU enables you to perform one of the most intriguing psychic feats that your spectators will ever experience.

One of the many possible uses of GURU:

Ask your spectator for a coin, and hand out a small clear plastic bag for examination. The coin is signed by the spectator and placed inside the bag for isolation. The spectator holds the bag.

You start to concentrate, letting your energy flow and heat up your fingers. You gently rub the coin, and transfer your energy and heat to it. You place the signed coin inside the bag, and continue to rub it softly. The spectator feels the coin inside the bag and confirms that the coin is getting hotter. The borrowed coin starts to heat up and VISUALLY melts through the bag. The spectator can see it and feel it. Give away everything to be examined.

The effect can take place on the hands of the spectator, and has been designed to be performed under test conditions.
  • Easy to do
  • Highly visual
  • No switches
  • No chemicals of any kind
  • Borrowed signed coin
  • Perform it surrounded
  • Everything can be examined before and after
  • Perform it anytime & anywhere
  • Always ready to go
Comes complete with patent pending technology and detailed instructions.

"FFFFing awesome!"

"GURU, I LOVE IT!"

"OK Jay - you got me!! What a great premise and the method is revolutionary. The method here is diabolical and this certainly opens up an entire new field of magic effects. This is going to be the hottest effect in magic for quite some time. Also makes a great addition to other coin routines such as bending a coin. This is BLAZING HOT!!!"

I have yet to take this effect out to show to anyone. That's partially due to some other effects I'm perfecting-and also because I won't show anything before I'm solid about handling and presentation.
I think it's great that Jay Crowe has linked an ancient practice-TRUE mind over matter, with a magic trick. How this effect is scripted, so far as wording is extremely clever-this in reference to creating the illusion of heat in the spectator's mind. That the entire effect can be performed as indicated in the description, makes it that much more miraculous.
What I am working on, is creating enough 'melt', so that the coin may fall out, of it's own accord. A large coin, even an antique one as shown on the effect's cover, would help with visibility-but technically, a penny or dime is more practical.
Mechanics and presentation aside, I also consider how or if this fits in with the rest of what I do. It's a strong trick, that borders on metaphysical phenomenon-but, if I have nothing else along these lines in my repertoire, this may stand out, and not necessarily in a good way. To be specific, this is to be presented as the REAL THING. Many mentalism effects likewise, are presented as though they are REAL. I think Guru will fit in well, with anyone who is out to convince their audience of REAL POWERS. That's not necessarily what I'm doing with magic. So, for anyone considering buying this effect, ask yourself if it fits into your act, your character, and what your'e working to get from your audience. Strong trick, ingenious principals-simple in terms of mechanics. The premise, and effect I think are too serious to show this with other, lighter tricks. I'd hate to see this popping up a thousand times on you tube, as performed by scores of adolescent boys out to show off a 'cool stunt'.
My other considerations, have to do with performing this impromptu. If I COULD touch an object and heat it up-part of me sees the potential for a spectator handing me an object/challenge-'can you heat up my bracelet? My car keys? This spoon? My coffee?' Trouble shooting thoughts perhaps-but it's not uncommon for people to want to naturally 'challenge' the 'real abilities' of a performer-which is probably WHY I don't present myself too seriously. It can open up other doors, or raise too many questions. I love to entertain and make people laugh, while I mystify them.
So, this very well thought out effect, is worth approaching in the same fashion. It's unusual-and worth using intelligently and appropriately...or not all.

I purchased Guru from Nathan Kranzo....man what a forceful item of magic...as noted the spectator holds the "gimmick" in their hands...can be seen totally surrounded...i have many Lay" their hands on my shoulder and head...to gain their energy....and yes the item slowly melts through the bag...I have already purchased 50+ refills...it's that good...check out the video at your favorite magic store or youtube....it's better than it looks on video
