Star Trick

Larry Becker and Lee Earle

(Based on 1 review)
You start with a 4-times-folded 24x36 inch (61cm x 91.5cm) poster that has 576 unique photographs of public celebrities - all printed in gorgeous color on a brilliant paper that is incredibly tear-resistant. You slowly and deliberately unfold and show every square inch of the printed surface to an audience participant, who verifies that all 576 shots are different.

Next, he randomly selects one of those icons as his 'secret star'. Only now do you unfold the full poster so the entire audience can see that the hundreds of photos are really tiles in a mosaic - becoming a work of art that depicts the participant's 'secret star'!

You can play it straight - as 'subconscious influence' - or as a gag, "Who wants to read his mind?"
  • No stooges.
  • No pre-show work.
  • No sleights.
  • No electronics.
  • No counting.
  • No adding.
  • No writing.
  • No plastic baggies.
  • Nothing to get between you and your audience.

The selection (a force - how else?) is clean, clever, and diabolic - as well as easy, direct, and logical.

Lee Earle spent hundreds of hours creating this digital masterpiece; both to honor an instantly recognizable star who transcends generations, and to design a visually intriguing prop to support an engaging routine.

Comes complete with full-color poster, instruction sheet and initial materials needed to start right out of the tube.

Star Trick is a very commercial piece of mental magic that packs flat and plays big, as they say.

Here is the hype direct from the manufacturer:

You start with a 4-times-folded 24x36 inch (61cm x 91.5cm) poster that has 576 unique photographs of public celebrities - all printed in gorgeous color on a brilliant paper that is incredibly tear-resistant. You can play it straight - as 'subconscious influence' - or as a gag, "Who wants to read his mind?"

Everything about the production of "Star Trick" is understated. The packaging and props are modest. You get a poster, a roll of invisible tape, a few labels and the instructions, which are printed on one 8 ½” x 11 ½” piece of paper.

Not a whole lot as far as props go, which is the beautiful thing about "Star Trick". Yet the effect is very surprising and your audience will find it very entertaining.

The poster you receive is very well produced. It is made out of the paper that survival maps and oilfield schematics use. The 576 different “tiled” photos are all clear and the text is very readable. The “mosaic” of the “secret star” is instantly recognizable.

The instructions are well written and easy to follow. The force that is used is devilishly simple and from the audience point of view is as fair as they come.

The final reveal is more effective when viewed at a distance which makes Star Trick perfect for your stage show. I don’t think this would work well for smaller situations where there is no stage. You really need to get a good distance away form the folded out poster to get the full effect of the mosaic.

If you were my customer at the magic shop and you asked for an entertaining, easy to do a piece of mental magic that played big and was easy to transport, Star Trick would be my first recommendation.
