Odd Quad

Fooler Doolers

(Based on 1 review)
A triple climax routine with a Technicolor finish!

Effect: Four aces are shown and one is selected by a spectator. The chosen ace is shown to be "odd" because it's the only RED backed card in the BLUE backed packet! A different ace is chosen and this second selection now becomes the new "odd" card because it's the only BLUE backed card backed card in the RED backed packet! The first "odd" card has a red back and the second "odd" card has a blue back. The two remaining cards also prove to be "odd" because their backs are YELLOW and GREEN! All four Aces have different colored backs! Everything can be examined and you are instantly reset.

Odd Quad comes complete with FIVE poker sized cards printed by the U.S. Playing Card Company (the extra card is for a more advanced handling), detailed written instructions including an advanced handling), full-color packaging and a performance/explanation DVD which includes a live performance at the Magic Castle.

I wish this could be as simple as, “Watch the YouTube video, and if you like it, buy it.”

From the product standpoint, this is really well made. It’s a nice looking product, and includes well printed instructions and a nicely produced DVD. The cards themselves aren’t gimmicked, and can be easily replaced if torn, damaged or lost.

The effect itself may seem fairly transparent from a magician’s standpoint. If you have any knowledge of magic, and watch the demo, you will see the effect is centered around a move called the flushstration count. It’s pretty much the only move in the routine, and I’m not sure it’s the kind of move that can handle the scrutiny of being used twice in the same effect. That said, the final reveal is a surprise to the audience he is performing for on the DVD, and I’m sure it is the standard response to the effect.

There is also a bonus handling which adds more convincers to the routine. I think this is needed, but that’s just my opinion. The second phase is kind of weak compared to the first and third phases, but again, the end impact seems to be strong.

Even though this is well produced, I’m only giving this effect two stars. I still have some issues that keep me from thinking it’s a really deceptive effect, but it’s still a good product that is priced well.

Once again, “Watch the YouTube video, and if you like it, buy it.”
