Overview

Penetration effects have always been impressive. A solid object passing through another solid object not only defies reason but captures peoples’ attention. The most famous of this genre is probably The Linking Rings, but carrying rings around, even the smallest, is not the most convenient of things to do. Naturally, clever magicians created penetration effects that are more organic and portable. Effects such as the Karate Coin and Pen Through Bill have been perennial favorites because it brings the effect down to the masses. Melty by Jordan Victoria is a penetration effect that will give the card magician the opportunity to perform the same type of effect with something other than a sharpie.

Effect

The performer has a card selected from a deck and signed. It is displayed, and pushed forward out from the deck. He retrieves a mini Bic lighter from his pocket and heats the front of the card and then the back. Now that the card has been duly softened, he proceeds to push the lighter through the card. The entire lighter is pushed virtually completely through and removed. The card is placed back on the deck, turned face up and handed out for inspection.

Method

Naturally, the method uses a gimmicked card. The entire routine relies on two beginner / intermediate sleights, a finger break and a double lift. The rest is all presentation.

Product Quality

The gimmicked card in very well made. The card is perfectly aligned and the mechanism to initiate the magic is very stout and perfectly mated. The quality of the construction and impressive. The download is less than 5 minutes long and goes through the basic routine without much fanfare. Although the creator is French, the instructional is in English and very understandable and clear. It would have been nice to see a couple of live performances than just a sterile tutorial. You will have to provide your own mini Bic lighter. One issue I found I that the package I received had a URL link to an insecure website. The proper link should be from Murphy’s Magic, if it is not, contact Murphy’s for the Vimeo link. The password is the same.

Ad Copy Integrity

The ad copy, although brief is accurate. The gimmick is exceptional in quality and it does specify lighter not included.
