When Alan sent JB Magic a video clip of him performing this routine, they knew they had a sure fire winner.

A small spiral bound book is handed to a spectator. Each page has a picture of 4 different symbols on it. Each page also has a bold, black printed number.

A small envelope is placed onto the table. The spectator is asked to thumb through the book and stop on ANY PAGE. Note this is any page. No forcing of any kind. For the first time, the magician shows the back of the envelope. It reads Everyone says stop on an odd number. Amazingly they have selected an odd number. The envelope is opened and tipped out is a prediction. It MATCHES EXACTLY the page they stopped on.

IMPORTANT:

SPECTATOR CAN EXAMINE THE BOOK, ALL PAGES ARE DIFFERENT.
THEY CAN STOP ANYWHERE THEY LIKE.
ONLY ONE ENVELOPE.
BRILLIANT METHOD.
WORKS 100% EVERY TIME.
NO LONG AND SHORT PAGES ETC.
A DIFFERENT OUTCOME EVERY TIME.

Comes complete with:
Top quality gloss art book, prediction envelope and prediction, Spare Blank envelope for non English speaking countries. Step-by-step instructional DVD.

Running Time Approximately: 1hr 23min

For $35 bucks you get a medium quality DVD a high quality flip booklet, two prediction envelopes that are not opaque enough, one prediction card, and a decent effect that has one possibly major flaw.

I'll do my best to explain this without exposing the method. As I mentioned, the envelopes are not opaque enough, so you'll likely want to make or get your own envelopes that are more opaque. Otherwise, part of the method is tipped to the audience. That aside, the biggest issue is the book itself. While it is extremely well produced and a legitimate looking and nice looking prop, there is an iffy moment in the routine. It's true that they get a free choice of stopping on any page they want. However, once they stop, depending on where they stop, you have to interpret their choice in one way or the other. In some scenarios, the interpretation is fine, but in other scenarios it seems a little bit fishy. Half the time, you'll interpret one way, and half the time, the other.

There's really no way know for sure, and the funny thing is that every time I've performed this for someone, they always stop on the better of the two scenarios. Even though it's a 50/50 shot, I've just gotten lucky a bunch of times. I think, possibly with some scripting and proper wording, you can even make the less favorable outcome work. But doing it the way Mason teaches wouldn't quite be the best way to do it.

The effect is pretty much as clean as the ad copy claims and the product quality overall is solid. It packs flat so it's easy to carry around. Reset is instant. So all in all I think it's a win. You'll need to come up with your own presentation to justify the props and the handling. So if you like the props shown in the demo and you like the effect, then I think you'll be happy with your purchase.

Final verdict: 3.5 stars with a Stone Status of gem.

Pros:
This is a very nice trick at a very reasonable price
You can easily carry the props with you in your jacket pocket

Cons:
none really. I would suggest that you "over draw" the prediction card figures with correct coloured marker pens so that the prediction seems done by you, not a preprinted item, which is much more natural as it will look like something you drew yourself.

I purchased this effect last week and popped the dvd in as I was going thru the book and envelope. When I learned the method of the effect I started laughing because it is so simple but brilliant. With the proper presentation, Alan Chitty has created a wonderful mental miracle. Love it. On a scale from 1 to 100 I give it a 90. The cover of the book has a really bad drawing on it and the envelope needs to be thicker....it's a little bit transparent. Other than that it's great. Buy it!
