Overview
The rating (4 stars) is not exactly befitting my personal opinion. I have never touched, looked at or listened to anything pertaining to cold reading before now. A lot of it is (mostly) built around a vocabulary where the performer uses certain words to steer the reading in a way that the spectator feels it was very "spot on", even though it was largely general and random. The 2 CD-set honestly delivers from a teaching standpoint. I was extremely impressed how Kenton used some real readings, including one that did not go perfectly to formula, even though the participant felt extremely positive about the reading.The problem with cold readings is: I just kinda don't get them. Are you trying to console the person? Are you trying to get them to believe that you can see inside their personal lives? I mean...what is the deal with them? I might be able to speak well about all of this if I could see something live and then interview the person 1 week later. At its root, it all sounds like a person using magic words to make a person believe that you really care about their struggles and suffering and that they walk away from the table with "good advice". As a social worker, I find all that to be a tiny bit creepy. Not saying I would never do it! I don't own a high horse, and try to never climb up on one! I just am not sure about some of it.
Not being familiar with a range of teaching projects on this topic, my general thoughts are: it delivers what it is trying to sell. Let me say this: I am 99% sure I will be keeping this audio CD-set for some time.
