Overview
Unboxing by Nicholas Lawrence is a vanishing card box effect which will look amazing if you are willing to put the work into it. Some products are easy to rate and others more difficult, and this effect falls into latter category. The effect looks great, the instructional download is well made and thorough, so what can be wrong? Unfortunately, the ad copy is incredibly deceptive which is why I have issue with this one. If you purchase this and expect a constructed gimmick, you will be woefully disappointed. If you purchase this and expected to do some DIY you will be a bit overwhelmed. If you purchased this and are an expert at DIY you will be challenged.Effect
The performer approaches a group and offers to perform some magic. He is clearly holding a boxed deck of cards. Instantly the box is gone and a full deck of cards appear. The empty box is pulled from his back pocket.Method
The method uses a cleverly designed gimmick and a quick ditch of the said gimmick. The gimmick is a phenomenally thought out mechanism made from an original card box and ordinary playing cards. Additional items (but not all) are provided for the mechanism to work.Product Quality
With this effect there is a dichotomy which makes this a difficult effect to rate. First, let’s discuss the gimmick. Unfortunately, the gimmick does not come constructed. What is provided is an empty card box which is used for only part of the construction. You will have to provide additional playing cards to complete the project. Also included are three small pieces of material needed to activate the mechanism. The card box is a Bicycle card box; the quality is obviously what we are used to. In order to complete the project, you will need to provide a host of other items to finish it and those are not provided. The construction of the gimmick is complex. This is not a beginner’s endeavor. Nearly 25 minutes of the 55 minute download is devoted to the construction of the gimmick and that is with sections sped up. Those used to DIY projects may be challenged. The tutorial section makes up the rest of the download and it thorough. The photography, lighting and pacing are all done well which under normal conditions would bolster the overall rating of this project.Ad Copy Integrity
The most glaring omission in the ad copy is the fact that this is a DIY project and a complex one at that. The fact that this is left out completely only leads me to believe that the omission was intentional. That can be translated as FALSE ADVERTISING.(Top ▲)

The effect looks tremendous. It is very clean. The cleanup is not particularly difficult.
The gimmick takes up little space and you end with a normal deck of cards to do any effect you desire.
This is very well suited for close-up or parlor.
CONS
This is a pretty serious arts and crafts project. They could have made the gimmick. If you are adverse to major arts and crafts projects, then this is not for you.

I would have given this a higher score if the gimmick was already made. The effect is very good, so if serious arts and crafts is not a problem for you, then this is pretty good.
