Basic Cups And Balls Technique Booklet

Ron Bauer

(Based on 1 review)

This short but sneaky version of the Cups and Balls is a good way to get acquainted with the essential handling and presenting of this classic of magic.

Although the following is designed as an introduction to Cups and Balls for the student of magic, it is a complete and audience tested performance piece as well. Ron Bauer has used this act since the very beginning of his magic career, and it is as amusing to the public now as it was back then. You can use it sitting or standing. With the main version of the trick, you never go to your pockets. And, that's just one of the reasons the angles used are so safe.

Although this technique takes more than a dozen pages to explain, this entire presentation runs fewer than two minutes. It's slick and quick. You'll have a lot of fun performing it. And, your audiences will, too.

Cups and Balls Principles Covered:

  • Secretly Substituting a Duplicate
  • Keeping a ball hidden in a cup as you place it mouth down onto the table
  • Applying a rhythmic pattern for style
  • Occupying the holdout hand to avoid suspicion
  • Surreptitiously making the final load (Innovative Approach)

I found this booklet years after mastering a more complex version of cups and balls. There's another routine by Bob Farmer called 'Cyclops' that I'm interested in learning. From my perspective, doing Bauer's routine NOW, is like coming back to 'shore' after a lengthy scuba diving session. It's fun, simple, and yeah, it makes people laugh! The routine itself is a cupcake walk for anyone with experience with say Dai Vernon's routine, or other master versions. It's a nice reminder to me, to TRUST in the simplicity of certain effects/routines, and just have some fun. As always, Ron Bauer's booklets are about fun and entertainment-not just the moves but the entrainment factors. One thing I don't do, is perform this routine at the same session as my Vernon-based routine...it's one or the other. This routine in ways, is a playful sucker type of game, complete with an 'oops-I screwed up!' exposure, and a final payoff at finish. Reminds me of Don Alan's Chop Cup routine. One very nice feature of this booklet, is that it contains two ads from Mike Brazil's 'Rings and Things', makers of high end cups, and, Don Alan's Designer Chop Cup. Really nice looking cups, and apparently back by demand.
If you purchase this short but cute routine, you will have another 'tool', and version of the cups and balls. Effective, and so easy to do.
