This isn't the sort of product I would normally buy. But I was at the Chicago incarnation of the Real Magic Roadshow and local magician John Sturk was manning the Magic, Inc booth. John was very smart in the way he reeled me in; he began by describing the strongest of the several tricks that are on the DVS DVD. He also very cleverly kept the "Criss Angel Presents" banner on the package hidden behind his fingers until he could tell I was intrigued. Then he sealed the deal with his personal guarantee that it doesn't suck. (See, kids, that's why brick and mortar magic shops are great.)
Aside from Angel's name on the package, he only makes a brief appearance during one of the performance segments. During which he proclaims that DVS is "completely original!" It's not, and the creator, Mark Calabrese, has included on the disc a very useful discussion of its antecedents. In fact, unless you're a beginner in magic, you've seen references to the core idea behind DVS in several old card magic publications, but it's almost certain that you simply turned the page and never tried those tricks. Now is your chance to rediscover those gems, but that's not to say that the tricks taught on the disc aren't good. They are, and I'm confident that at least one of them will appeal to you.
You should know that DVS utilizes a consumable. Eventually you'll run out, but it will be a very long time as a generous amount is included with your purchase. Unfortunately, refills are not currently available. You'll need to buy DVS again, or find a substitute. By the time you run out, you'll likely have enough experience that this won't be an obstacle.
If DVS looks good to you, buy it. It's a good package with a lot of value. And if you don't want to take my word for it, take John's.
