Audio Coins to Pocket

(Based on 2 reviews)
Eric Jones presents a full body close up illusion. This is coin magic at its finest. Four coins are displayed on the palm of the hand. One at a time, the coins are rendered invisible and tossed into the air. As each coins falls, you hear an audible clink in the pocket indicating the moment the coin arrives. This process is repeated until the hands are left COMPLETELY EMPTY, and all four coins are extracted openly from the pocket. No extra coins. No pulls. No hold outs. No gimmicks. The magic is practical for virtually every situation, making this a perfect trick for the casual hobbyist or serious professional. You can even borrow four coins and perform this wonderful piece of impromptu piece of magic.

PROS

This is an awesome four coin routine using no gaff coins. The beauty of the routine is it invokes the senses of sight and sound.

The instruction is very good.

The routine can be performed completely surrounded.

CONS

The routine involves no gimmicks, just sleight of hand. However, the sleights aren’t the most difficult. The routine is going to take some practice, but it is very doable.

VERDICT

Great coin routine by a great coin master.

I have to say that this has been one of my absolute favorite coin effects to perform for the last few years. This is one fantastic little gem of an idea!

To my memory, this is the first item that was released by Eric Jones and so put his name out there into the mainstream flow of the "Who's Who" in magic.

What you read and see is exactly what you get - four coins are displayed, one is picked up and vanished only to reappear inside your pants pocket with an audible "clink". The ad copy is very accurate too. Yes, you actually can borrow coins to do this with - the bigger and heavier the coins the better and louder the "clink" will be, but I have even done this with U.S. quarters with no issue.

I can hear all the whining from performers out there about this being "inaudible in most situations" and while I have been in some slightly noisier venues where the "clink" was still able to be heard, this is absolutely a consideration. EVEN SO: The magic still happens and even without the "clink" the routine is very strong and magical to see - the sound, when it can be heard, just adds an extra level of magic to the whole thing overall.

The performance section was interesting to watch - he is shown performing the full routine for two different groups of people, and throughout the performance(s) the scenes switch from one group to the other, seamlessly. It flows very nicely and there were no repetitious parts to be found - nice bit of editing there.

As for the explanations, Eric is an excellent and exceptionally smooth teacher and does not leave anything to be desired here.

Each move in each of the four phases is broken down, he shows you the sleights/moves multiple times from both a head-on perspective and from a different angle. At the end of each phase explanation, there are very nice over-the-shoulder re-cap of the elements that were just covered in that explanation section.

There are a few points where he also gives you some alternative ways of doing a part of the phase or a certain move in the phase. For the final phase he also teaches two alternative methods of vanishing the coin before the last reappearance.

The menu is simple and easy to navigate. The video was absolutely crisp but there were a few times where it seemed like the lapel microphone was not picking up his voice when he turns his body during the explanations - you can still hear him just fine and it does not effect the teaching at all. Perhaps a onmi-directional mic would have corrected this minor issue.

The crediting on this disc is fantastic - it is spoken credit and is given progressively throughout the explanations.

As an aside, magic history buffs like myself watching this DVD will have just as much fun looking at all of the wonderful posters and magic props behind and around Eric as they will learning this routine.

Overall this routine is rather easy to do and it deserves practice to get it down smooth, and once you do you will have an excellent impromptu routine to perform that will lay audiences will enjoy!

Very highly recommended!
