Unknown Card

(Based on 2 reviews)

You fan out six cards to show three face-up Fours and three face-down cards. The cards are turned over and re-fanned to show three Tens. An “unknown” card is removed from your pocket and inserted into the fan. You now deal the Fours face down to a spectator while you hold the Tens and the “unknown” card. Your cards are squared, turned end-over-end three times, and re-fanned. The “unknown” card is pocketed. The Tens are now gone—faces and backs of blank-face cards are shown! The spectator's cards are turned over and the Fours are gone!

Overview

Nick Trost was really an amazing thinker. This tricks is so clever and easy to perform. I really like it. For $10 bucks this is a great trick.

Unfortunately the gimmicked cards do not come on Bicycle backs. That would have been better.

Here you apparently show three 4's and three 10's and in an instant - one magical card wipes away all the pips, leaving 6 blank card and the magical card has all the pips printed on one card.

The trick is very direct and fooling, but it requires you to use a pocket to ring in and out the "magical" card.

The trick takes about 30 seconds to perform and is really strong.

Hat off to NT once again!

Effect

As described in the ad copy (slightly modified by me):

You show six cards: three face-up Fours and three face-down cards. The cards are turned over and re-fanned to show three Tens. An "unknown" card is removed from your packet and inserted into the fan. You now deal the Fours face down to a spectator while you hold the Tens and the "unknown" card.

Your cards are squared, turned end-over-end three times and refanned. The "unknown" card is pocketed. The Tens are now gone-face and backs of blank-face cards are shown! The spectator's cards are turned over and the Fours are gone! Finally you show where the spots went-they're on the face of the "unknown" card!

Method

Specially printed gaffed cards are required as well as minimal moves. Within anyone's reach! It will take anyone a few practice rounds and then you will have it down!

Product Quality

Excellent, except as stated above, I wish Trost tricks were printed on Bikes! The instructions are clear and have hand drawn images to help explain the moves.

Ad Copy Integrity

Completely accurate. The ad copy only seems to contain a typo,. which I fixed above. This trick is direct and hard hitting. The card just can't be handed out.

This trick has enormous impact on viewers and yet is so simple to perform. It has a few more cards than your average packet trick, and it may take a few extra minutes to perform as well. It seems so fairly done, yet looks impossible. Try as I did, there seems to be no way out of having to pocket the 'unknown card'. Questionable as this may seem, six card faces evaporate-which weighs more in most people's eyes than one card temporarily going to the pocket.
The climax in this effect, is worth milking-( build up to the 'identity' of the unknown card).
GREAT response from people-something that they have NEVER seen before.
I know many clever moves and routines with a packet of cards-this one, is one of the easiest to perform, and has a guarenteed laugh inducing punchline. A Nick Trost classic, and a top favorite of mine. ( if I carry it in one of my wallets, it's like a close friend-reliable).
