Mesika's Wallet
by Yigal Mesika

Mesika's Wallet is made of high quality leather and designed to be used as a regular wallet. With it, you will be able to perform miracles anytime and anywhere.

EFFECT:
During a performance the magician hands his wallet to a spectator before asking them to select any card, sign it, and return it to the deck. The magician then shuffles the deck and says that if he can't find the chosen card, the spectator can keep the wallet and its contents! The magician goes through the deck and the chosen card is missing, but inside the wallet is a zippered compartment - and inside the compartment is the card FOLDED up! There's a moment of breathless anticipation as the magician hands the spectator the card to unfold - revealing his signature - and creating a remarkable experience the audience won't forget!

What better way to give out your business card than with this trick!

It will be hard to follow such a review by Jeff McBride, but nonetheless, here goes:

My first impressions of this wallet upon taking it out of the packaging was that it was very well made and of good quality.

I like the features of the wallet outside of the card-to-wallet part of it - plenty of space for credit/debit cards, IDs, business cards, money, etc. That and the fact that it snaps closed on the outside made it an instant decision to use this wallet as my everyday wallet.

The card-to-wallet feature is pretty much a no-brainer as far as its use/operation goes, and is straightforward. As far as getting things inside the wallet, it will take a little practice to get used to it unless you are familiar with slide-less wallets.

After having used this wallet for a bit, I found myself wishing that it was slightly larger (wider, really) in size for one reason: A standard unfolded poker-sized playing card will fit into the zipper compartment loader just fine, but it can be a struggle to get it out of the zipper pocket because it is a tight fit.

The instructions that come with the wallet show you how to do a Mercury Fold, but in my opinion, if I am going to fold a card up (openly or not), make it vanish and reappear elsewhere, it is not going to be inside of a wallet. Regardless, a folded card fits very easily into, and is very easy to get out of the zipper compartment.

That said, this wallet is also excellent for use with other objects, such as rings, signed bills or coins, keys, etc. I have even come up with a way to make the smaller items appear inside a small, sealed envelope inside the zipper compartment - something you cannot really do with even folded playing cards.

Overall this wallet is very useful, it is well-made, it is easy to use, it looks like an ordinary, everyday wallet and can be used as one. This makes it easy to do anything-to-wallet at any moment.

Personally I do not use this wallet in formal situations because I have another dedicated model that I use, but if you have ever wanted one that you can carry all the time, use anywhere with cards and even small, borrowed objects, I highly recommend this one!

I have two drawers full of wallets. Himber, Mullica, Kaps, Z-fold, Peek, Switch, Fire, you name it, I've got it in my drawer, here at the Magic School. You see friends, I make excuses when I see a new magic prop... ("Gee, it's not really for me, it's for the students," so I can justify buying it.) The only wallet I actually carry with me, every day of my life is the Mesika wallet. This is the one I use for my repeat card-to-wallet, and you can see a detailed explanation of my personal multi-phase routine on my Magic at the Edge three volume DVD set.

Yigal gave me one of his wallets when they first appeared on the market, many years ago. When he demonstrated it for me, he had my signed card appear in the wallet, but it was folded in quarters. I really didn't like the idea of giving my participant a signed card that had been folded. In my opinion, folded = broken. However, I did work out a handling, and so did Yigal, where the card is not folded. I prefer this.

The wallet is a real hip-style men's wallet with a snap "tack-style" fastener. The wallet opens, and there is a zippered compartment that your audience participant can un-zip before you remove the card. Now, when I say "hip-style" men's wallet, I'm not just talking about fashion. It is the kind of wallet that a man would carry in his back pants pocket. This style of wallet has advantages for many of today's more casually dressed street-style magicians. In the olden days of yore, many card-to-wallets were billfold style, longer ones, that would have to be worn in a front breast pocket. Magicians who work without coats or in short sleeves, sans jacket, will find this a very practical and stylish wallet to add to their arsenal of close-up tools.

I don't leave home without mine. Next time I see you, I'll show you my routine!
