This is one of the better matrix products I have ever seen. The methods are clean and easy to do and the gimmicks are very clever.
Not only do you get the two necessary gimmicks already made, but Rian also shows you how to make them. The section where he teaches you how to make your own is very clear and he uses freeze-framing with some bold lines to show you exactly where to cut and glue the gimmicks.
This product is not a traditional four coin/four card Matrix, though it can be with the addition of extra gimmicks or extra coins and cards with sleight of hand. It is a method using two cards and two coins, just as the ad copy states. Speaking of the ad copy, it is 100% honest and what you see in the trailer, you can do with these gimmicks and much, much more. The only thing I really did not care for as that for some of the vanishes, you have to move the card they vanished under to another spot to make them reappear. This could be corrected (read: cleaned up) by using sleight of hand or by incorporating a second gimmick. As far as using the gimmicks, they are easy to use but you may need to work on making your actions smooth with them. Just a little practice is all you need.
The production quality of this DVD is fantastic - the video and audio are crisp and clear, easy to hear and understand and the teaching is done from multiple shots. He also uses clear cards for some portions to make things easier to understand. I do understand that this was an instructional video, but I do feel that some of the demonstrations were flown through way too quickly - not that you could not follow what was happening, but in a public performance an audience would not have had time to appreciate the magic moment or to take in what had happened. The teaching was well-paced though.
He teaches you how to use both gimmicks and then gives you some ideas on how to combine them, other effects to use them with, etc. Rian made mention of something that I always bring up when it comes to using gimmicks - do not just rely on the gimmicks but mix in some sleight of hand with it. If you do that with these gimmicks, you will have a very clean and strong effect!
For two well-made gimmicks, a great DVD that teaches you everything you need to know and a great addition to the matrix genre, the price of $19.95/USD for this is stellar!
If you like the Matrix effect or would like an easier way to introduce yourself to the plot, this DVD is for you! Very highly recommended!

Random I-Tunes Song of The Moment: The Clairvoyant by Iron Maiden
Duo by Rian Lehman Review:
Two gimmicks, one DVD and $20 bucks. Is it gem or is it rubble? Stay tuned to find out.
Effect
Appearances and vanishes of coins, matrix style. This is more of a utility than it is an effect. You can add this utility to your matrix/card-coin work.
Method
Two gimmicks and some very simple handling make this all possible. The gimmicks are simple to use and very deceptive and they handle beautifully. This is not beginner stuff, but certainly intermediate level and above.
One gimmick allows you to have any two cards selected from a deck and placed on the table where a coin magically appears under each. The cards that the coins appear under are 100% examinable and so are the coins. The second gimmick allows you to cause coins to vanish and reappear.
The only minor issue I had with some of the methods used, was that when you had one coin vanish from under a card, to cause it to reappear under a different card, you had to move the first card (the one it vanished from) over to the other card and slide it underneath the card where the coin is about to reappear. However, there are other techniques and effects where that is not needed, so it's a minor concern.
Ad Copy Integrity
The ad copy is solid. It's 100% accurate. This is one of the cleanest gimmicks for this type of effect that I've seen. It's super easy to load and unload the coins.
Product Quality
Not only are the supplied gimmicks well made, but you're taught on the DVD how to make your own. They're super easy to make, and they were taught better than most DVDs. Typically when you have to do a minor arts and crafts project with some playing cards, the instructional DVD is not as clear as it could be. In this DVD, however, they took the time to freeze frame and outline with bold marks, the exact places that need to be cut, glued, etc. It was crystal clear.
The DVD was easy to navigate and well produced, lit, mic'd, etc.
Final Thoughts
When you consider that you get two gimmicks, plus a DVD all for only $20 bucks, it's darn near impossible to give this a bad rating. If you're into coin/card matrix style routines - I'm not - you'll absolutely love what you're getting, especially for the price.
Final Verdict:
5 Stars with a Stone Status of GEM!
