Jay Sankey

Sankey Magic

(Based on 2 reviews)
Beyond the moves, beyond the gimmicks, beyond the patter, there exists a handful of fundamental truths about the performance and creation of magic. After performing for more than a quarter of a century and creating hundreds of innovative magic routines, Jay Sankey has written a book exploring these same truths.

This thought-provoking collection of short pieces ranges from the technical and psychological to the philosophical and sociological, while also staying rooted in the heartfelt and practical. After reading just a handful of the passages, you will see the craft of magic in a whole new light.

Jay Sankey always produces great magic and lectures, so I am sure that it will come as no surprise to you to find out that his book was great too.

It is full of lots of small essays on various topics, ranging from the myth of speed to the wonder of wit. It is a very useful book to own and if you like the sound of the product description then I would advise getting it, because the product description is decent.

On the whole at least the product description is decent, it does however have quite a bold claim of,"become a better magician today." This is quite a bold statement to make, and I am not sure if every person who reads this will become a better magician.

My only problem with the whole product is the price. It is $29.95, which in my opinion is a great deal of money for a book which just teaches the philosophy of magic. However if you are into that sort of thing, then it is entirely worth the money, it is just a bit too expensive for me. (I hope that made sense!)

On the whole, a good book, an interesting read, and if you are into the sort of thing that the product description says, then get this book!

This is a great book on just about everything magic has to offer besides the actual tricks. Basically this is a collection of essays by Jay Sankey covering all sorts of topics from character to audience management. Each essay is fairly short anywhere from a couple paragraphs to a couple pages. Quick read with an easy to understand style.

This is not a pretentious book full of weird ideas but rather a solid collection of advice from a very good magician who knows what he's talking about.
