Tonte Jr.

Ton Onosaka

(Based on 1 review)
The classic game of 3-Card Monte in a new version with jumbo cards that's filled with surprises! Three cards are shown: two black Tens, and a Queen of Hearts. The spectator is asked to "find the lady," but that's not possible, for now the performer holds three black Tens - the Queen is found inside the magician's pocket! The game is repeated with the four-card set. Again, the spectator is unable to find the Queen, for the packet now consists of four Tens; the Queen is again inside the magician's pocket! The performer suggests that a five-card game is too difficult, so one card is dealt aside. The remaining cards are mixed. The spectator is asked to locate the Queen - and of course, suspects that the card that was put aside is the one. In fact, that card turns out to be the only black Ten - and the other four cards are now seen to be all Queens, one of each suit!

Well, how do I start - frustration personified. So, I received Tonte Jr. packaged nicely with all cards needed in a nicely sealed plastic envelope and printed instructions one page both sides - that’s it, that’s all. No link at all to any online instructions, just one page of printed instructions on both sides with ’some’ (two) line drawings of what the positioning of the cards should be in. Trying to follow the instructions of what card goes where, what the hand positioning should be, “as the right hand rotates forward, the left wrist turns inward bringing the left card to a vertical position …” and I’m left-handed was ridiculous for me. Left-handed people beware.

I spent quite a bit of time going through the instructions over and over trying to work out the moves perfectly. Is this a nice, visual and climactic trick - yes. Did I find it worth the time and effort without video instructions - no. Are there other card effects that you can buy for the same price with the same type of climax - yes. Did I think the time I spent ripping my hair out with these instructions worth it - no. If you don’t mind spending the time and effort to work through this by all means buy this but this one was really not for me. If I would have received online instructions I would have rated this higher.
