Pen Pal

Alexis De La Fuente

(Based on 1 review)
From the creative mind of the French magician, Alexis de la Fuente, comes a brilliant piece of card magic. Pen Pal is one trick you will carry with you at all times. Any signed card appears under a Sharpie pen clip.

Perform it as a stand alone piece, or at the end of your favorite ambitious card routine.

When Alexis sent this effect to me, via a video clip, I genuinely thought he was joking. The switch is simply invisible. With only minutes of practice, you can openly exchange one card for another, in a SPLIT second.

The Gimmick can also be changed in seconds. Do you perform mentalism? Then change the gimmick for a folded written prediction. Pen Pal also works with any type of bill. It will also work with any playing card design.

The DVD features two bonus handling's for Pen Pal, one of which is totally impromptu. It uses nothing but a regular Sharpie.

PROS

The gimmick works very well. The instruction is good. The effect can be done surrounded. The skill level is beginner to intermediate as you will need to do a Mercury fold.

CONS

In the demo, you see that the card is clipped to your sharpie in your front pants pocket. This seems like an odd position for a pen. A more natural position would be in your shirt pocket. It makes me wonder if this is any sort of improvement on Jay Sankey’s “Paperclipped.” I’m not so sure if it is.

VERDICT

Nice gimmick, but I think this would be better if it is clipped to the shirt pocket, not the pants pocket. I think that a modified handling would make that possible, and I think that would have been a better way to go. For that reason, I gave this three stars.
