Dominque Duvivier is already considered a legend by his peers. a self-taught man, his magical background is out of the ordinary: he is an amazing inventor (he has created thousands of tricks and groundbreaking sleights), the founder of Paris's famous Magic Pub/Cabaret, The Double Fond, and the owner of the oldest magic shop in the world, Mayette Magic Moderne (founded in Paris in 1808). This passionate man is also a relentless worker, who will never stop pushing the envelope of the Magical Art.

My favorite part of the DVD was the interview with Mr. Duvivier by Graham Jones. Here we get a chance to know the performer and what motivations and goals he has. He is very honest and though I did not agree with everything he said I really did enjoy this segment.

I wanted to like this DVD as a whole. I really did! Mr. Duvivier seems to be a likeable enough fellow with a pleasant manner. But for me endless four ace assemblies are a tough sell. I have yet to meet a layperson that said “I saw a guy do a trick with four aces that was just remarkable.” I am afraid that for the most part, four ace assemblies are only interesting to magicians. These seem to go on forever! There are other card effects also but nothing that grabbed and held my attention. That being said if performing four ace assemblies for other magicians is your thing then you may find this DVD more interesting than I did.

The material moves beyond cards with “Coins into the Glass” and “ Coin Box” although both effects require some gimmicks that must be purchased. The card effect explanations assume that the viewer has some basic knowledge of card sleights, as they are not explained. One thing that really stood out during the explanations is that at one point while setting up a stack of cards Duvivier makes a mistake and instead of filming the sequence over it is just explained away by the translator while the stack is reassembled. This really bothered me, after all, this is the advantage of working with tape; we get to do it over!

Overall I was disappointed with this DVD. The pace of the early four ace assemblies slowed it to a crawl from which it never recovered.
