Overview

The Card to Impossible Location is not a new plot. It has probably been in existence for as long as cards have been around. For those that don’t know the term, basically a card is chosen and lost in the deck. After a brief moment the deck is fanned out and the chosen card has completely disappeared. Amazingly, the card does appear in a place where seemingly it was impossible for it to get there. The locations the chosen card ultimately can be found ranges from envelopes, boxes, cigar tubes, wallets, behind a glass window and numerous more. Bolted by Jared Manley is another impossible location which not only seems impossible but has unique tactile interest and an opportunity to leave a souvenir with the spectator.

Effect

A spectator is asked to pick a card. Initially, it seems like any other “pick a card trick”. The performer produces a prized possession which is a playing card signed by a famous personality bolted between two Plexiglas panels. He bets the spectator that if he can’t make their chosen card disappear, they get to keep his prized possession. The chosen card is placed between the palms of the spectator. Unfortunately, the magician seems to be running into a bit of trouble. The card is still between the palms of the spectator. Resigned to failure the performer reluctantly starts to hand his prized possession over and to both their surprise the chosen card is sandwiched between the Plexiglas panels and the “prized possession” is between the spectator’s hands. This is only one version of what can be done with Bolted.

Method

There are several things that are going on at the same time. Obviously, the Bolted gimmick is necessary for this to happen. Along with that some intermediate card handling skills and intestinal fortitude are necessary for the handling of the deck. A couple of the moves required elicits fear when performers hear that these moves are needed. In the case of Bolted there are a couple of methods, one of which the deck box provides cover. Over time as one builds up confidence, one can progress from the easier to more complex handling. Each version has a different “feel”.

Product Quality

The bolted gimmick is very well made. What is provided other than the Plexiglas block is another item which can be used for one of the advanced version. Also provided is a black bag for yet another version. As far as performance option, there are a few to choose from. The download instructional is 1:47 minutes long, divided into 19 sections. From the initial development of the Bolted concept through each and every handling, everything is covered. Javier Fuenmeyer, Murphy’s Magic spokesperson does a phenomenal job explaining every move, step by step.

Ad Copy Integrity

The ad copy does in my opinion have a bit of inaccuracy. Although it does not really affect the presentation the statement “no duplicates” is a bit untrue. If you are reading the ad copy as a purchaser there is one duplicate. Again, this does not affect the overall impression this trick will provide.
